| Taxes, a General Statement |
A key to liberty is the right to private property whether land, possessions or funds. Excessive taxes rob Virginians of this right. Source: www.stevehunt.org (07/19/2011) |
Over the last decade, state government spending in Virginia has more than doubled. The growth in the Commonwealth's budget exceeds the growth in population and the cost of living over the same period. It is vital for us to utilize the ample funds currently available to Richmond by refocusing the budget from unnecessary policies to high priority policies, which is obtainable without raising taxes.
Our government should be run more like a business - maximize capital by accomplishing more while spending less. Businesses must take into consideration the affects of market forces and must constantly work towards achieving the highest levels of efficiency. By applying these same principles to our government, we are able to adapt to the economic trends without dipping into Virginians' pockets.
I believe Virginia's businesses, families and individuals already pay too much in taxes. As your State Senator, I will lead the fight to protect taxpayers' wallets by refusing to raise taxes and to encourage more thoughtful and efficient spending.
Stable government policies will promote a business friendly atmosphere, which must be centered on low taxes, providing businesses with tax incentives for job creation, reducing regulation that stifles growth, and promoting a fiscally responsible government that lives within its means and refrains from continuing to heavily tax businesses and individuals.
