I have worked all my life to help others to carry out their goals, using the tools of democracy -- forming democratic organizations and exercising the whole range of democratic rights. I am especially committed to the inclusion and empowerment of those who are often excluded and disrespected.
I live in Winchester Virginia, and have lived in Virginia all of my adult life. I am married.
I have a B.S. in Organizational Management from Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
Since becoming Executive Director of the Virginia Housing Coalition, I had a variety of responsible positions in nonprofits serving people in need, and working for their empowerment. I have worked at the national, state and local levels on a variety of issues, including housing, the environment, neighborhood issues, and criminal justice issues.
I have been involved in political campaigns off and on since 1964, but never ran for office until this year, 2013.
Added to Virginia Affordable Housing Hall of Fame, June 2011
Lifetime Achievement Award as Organizer and Movement Builder, Virginia Organizing, August 2010
1989 Member of the Year, Virginia Association of Neighborhoods
I see my campaign for electoral office as a continuation of my decades of service to communities and people in need.
